Mike Hargrove is a former MLB first baseman and manager. His playing days spanned from 1974-1985 with the Texas Rangers (1974-1979), San Diego Padres (1979) and Cleveland Indians (1979-1985). He hit .323 in 1974, earning both the Sporting News Rookie of the Year and A.L. Rookie of the Year honors and becoming the first Rangers rookie to win the awards. In 1975, Hargrove hit .303 with 11 home runs and 62 RBIs and was named an All-Star. Twice during his career he earned votes as a candidate for MVP, first in 1979 and again in 1981.

After his playing career, Hargrove returned to Cleveland to manage the Indians from 1991-1999. Under Hargrove, the Indians advanced twice to the World Series in 1995 and 1997. From 1995-1999, behind such players as Kenny Lofton, Carlos Baerga and Omar Vizquel, Hargrove led the Indians to five straight American League Central titles and berths in the playoffs each year.

From 2000-2003, he managed the Baltimore Orioles and from 2005-2007, he was skipper of the Seattle Mariners. In total for his managerial career, Hargrove’s record was 721-591. In recognition of both his playing and managing success with Cleveland, he was named a member of the Indians Hall of Fame.
