Jim Sundberg is a retired Major League Baseball catcher who enjoyed most of his success with the Texas Rangers (1974-1983, 1988-1989) but also played for the Milwaukee Brewers (1984), Kansas City Royals (1985-1986) and Chicago Cubs (1987-1988). Considered one of the top defensive catchers during his time in the majors, Sundberg was six times named a Gold Glove winner and three times named an All-Star. He won a World Series with the Royals in 1985 and is a member of the Rangers Hall of Fame after playing the most games at catcher in team history.

He was picked by the Rangers in 1973 in the 1st round of the draft. The next year, Sundberg was called up to the majors from Single A and made his major league debut on April 4, 1974. That season, he was named an All-Star and finished 4th in voting for Rookie of the Year. During the 1975 season, Sundberg recorded 101 assists behind the plate and became the first catcher in the American League since World War II to tally more than 100 assists in one season. Sundberg was born on May 18, 1951 in Galesburg, Illinois and went to college at the University of Iowa.
