Mike Richter is a retired NHL goalie who played his entire professional career from 1989-2003 with the New York Rangers. Richter logged 38,183 minutes behind net during his career, posting a 2.89 goals against average and 301 wins in 666 games played, the latter being a Rangers team record. Richter in 1994 went 42-12 for the Rangers - his win total being a career-best along with a franchise record – as he led New York to a Stanley Cup victory. In the playoffs that season he went 16-7, which included four shutouts, and a 2.07 GAA. Richter was a three-time NHL All-Star (1992, 1994, 2000) and is a 2008 inductee into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. In 2004, the Rangers retired his #35 jersey.
He also enjoyed a successful international playing career representing the United States. He won a silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, while in 1996 he was goaltender on the U.S. team that won gold at the World Cup of Hockey. After his playing days, Richter earned a degree from Yale University and launched a successful business career, serving as a founding partner in Healthy Planet Partners and Environmental Capital Partners. He has also been heavily involved with non-profit environmental organizations, including Riverkeeper, Adirondack Natural Conservancy, Natural Resources Defense Council and the Sierra Club. Richter was born on September 22, 1966 in Abington, Pennsylvania and played college hockey at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
