Ottis Anderson is a retired NFL running back who played from 1979-1992 with the St. Louis Cardinals (1979-1986) and New York Giants (1986-1992). Anderson helped the Giants to victories in Super Bowl XXI in 1987 and XXV in 1991. He was named Super Bowl XXV MVP after rushing for 102 yards on 21 carries and one td.
In 1979 and 1980, while still with St. Louis, he was named to back-to-back Pro Bowls as well as earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 1979 as a rookie. That same year he was also named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year as he rushed 331 times for 1,605 yards and nine td’s. From 1985-1987, injuries limited his playing time but in his fourth season in New York, Anderson started all 16 games, rushing the ball 325 times for 1,023 yards. For his efforts, he was named the 1989 NFL Comeback Player of the Year. He finished his NFL career in 1992 having rushed for 10,273 yards to go along with 86 touchdowns.
Anderson was the 8th overall selection in the 1st round of the 1979 draft by St. Louis out of the University of Miami, where as a senior he was named a First-Team All-American by the Sporting News and American Football Coaches Association. He was Miami’s first 1,000-yard rusher and graduated as the school’s all-time leader in leader in rushing yards. Off the field, Anderson has been involved with numerous charities including the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Boys & Girls Club of America and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
