Rick Horton currently serves as a television analyst for St. Louis Cardinals games on FOX Sports Midwest, working with the likes of Al Hrabosky, Jim Edmonds and Tim McCarver. Horton has been calling Cardinals games on television since 2003 and has additionally been part of the St. Louis radio broadcast team since 1997. He has also appeared on the pregame and postgame “Cardinals Live” shows. Horton has received numerous honors for his broadcast work, including the Mid-American Emmy Award for Sports Broadcasting and National Sportsmanship Award. In 2014, he became a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. A devout Christian, Horton has worked as the director for the Greater St. Louis Area chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) since 1993. He additionally has worked with Baseball Chapel and led Bible studies and chapel for the St. Louis Rams.
Prior to his broadcast career, Horton pitched in the majors from 1984-1990, primarily for the Cardinals but also the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. He made his MLB debut on April 7, 1984 and recorded 9 wins his rookie year. He appeared in two World Series with St. Louis and one with Los Angeles, winning a ring with the Dodgers. After his playing days ended, Horton worked as a coach in the Cleveland Indians minor league system. Horton was born on July 30, 1959 in Poughkeepsie, New York and played college baseball at the University of Virginia. In 1980, he led the team in strikeouts, ERA and innings pitched. He was picked in the 4th round by the Cardinals in the 1980 draft.
