Martin Brodeur is a former NHL goalie who played in the league for 22 seasons from 1993-2015, primarily with the New Jersey Devils (1993-2014) but also briefly with the St. Louis Blues (2014-2015). A 2018 inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame, Brodeur in 2017 was named as one of the NHL’s 100 Greatest Players ever as part of the league’s century celebration. Brodeur won three Stanley Cups with New Jersey, leading the Devils to championships in 1995, 2000 and 2003. Additionally, he was the recipient of three Hart Memorial trophies as the NHL’s MVP (2003, 2004, 2007).
Brodeur is the NHL’s all-time leader in wins (691), shutouts (125) and games played (1,266) by a goalie. A 10-time All-Star selection (1996-2000, 2000-2001, 2003-2004, 2007), Brodeur was four times awarded the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goalkeeper, in 2003, 2004, 2007 and 2008, and the William N. Jennings Trophy five times (1997, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2010).
Four times in his career he led all NHL goalies in games played, while six times he led the league in minutes behind net. From 1997-2007, Brodeur led the NHL in wins in all but one season. In international play, Brodeur won gold medals representing Canada at the 2002 and 2010 Winter Olympics. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on May 6, 1972.
