Ryan Callahan is a former NHL winger who played 13 seasons with the New York Rangers (2006-2014) and Tampa Bay Lightning (2014-2019). From 2011-2014, Callahan served as captain of the Rangers. In 757 career games, he scored 186 goals with 200 assists.
Chosen by the Rangers in the fourth round (No. 127 overall) of the 2004 NHL Draft, Callahan made his New York debut in November 2006 and went on to score eight goals with five assists as a rookie. His sophomore campaign in the NHL saw Callahan score 22 goals with 18 assists. In 2011-2012, he set a career-high in goals (29) and points (54). During his time in New York, Callahan was a favorite of the fans, who four times voted him winner of the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award, recognizing his efforts on the ice.
Following a trade to Tampa Bay midseason in 2013-2014, Callahan scored 24 goals with a career-best 30 assists the following year, tying his career-high in points set with the Rangers four seasons prior. Internationally, Callahan represented the United States in two Winter Olympics, winning a silver medal at Vancouver in 2010. He also skated for the U.S. at the 2005 IIHF World Junior Championship. After his playing career ended, Callahan worked as a game and studio analyst for NHL games on ABC/ESPN.
