Sean May enjoyed a successful collegiate basketball career at the University of North Carolina, where he played from 2002-2005. He earned a pair of All-ACC honors in 2004 and 2005, helping the Tar Heels to an NCAA Championship in the latter year and being named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. The school honored May by hanging his jersey at the Dean E. Smith Center alongside such other Tar Heel greats as Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Brad Daugherty, Eric Montross, Vince Carter, J.R. Reid and Kenny Smith. He currently serves as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Tar Heels.
After his collegiate playing days, May was a 1st round pick in 2005 by the Charlotte Bobcats and played with the team through 2009. He had a solid season in the 2006-2007 campaign, averaging 11.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. From 2009-2010, he played for the Sacramento Kings before embarking on a career abroad where he played in Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro and France from 2011-2015. While playing in Turkey with Fenerbahce Ulker in 2011, he won a Turkish Cup title and a Turkish League championship. In 2013, while playing with Paris-Levallois, May was the French League Best Scorer, averaging 18.4 points per game. That year, he won a French Cup as well as French Cup MVP honors.
May was born on April 4, 1984 and went to high school at Bloomington North in Bloomington, Indiana, where he was three times named All-State and a 2002 McDonalds High School All-American. His father is Scott May, who played at the University of Indiana and was the recipient of the Naismith Award as the nation’s top collegiate basketball player in 1976.
