One of the most recognizable voices in the coverage of golf, Steve Sands serves as a play-by-play announcer and lead interviewer for Golf Channel and NBC Sports’ coverage of the PGA Tour, Ryder Cup, various majors, The Players and Presidents Cup. He also hosts the popular network show “Live From the Masters” each April from Augusta, Georgia. In additional to golf, Sands has additionally worked as a member of NBC’s Olympic broadcast team at several Summer and Winter Olympics for the sports of golf and speed skating. His nickname is “Sandsie”, which was given to him by Tiger Woods.

After being raised in Washington D.C. and Rockville, Maryland, Sands moved west to Ft. Collins, Colorado, where he attended Colorado State University. He interned for CNN Sports in 1990 and graduated from CSU in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in technical journalism. He served as a sports anchor in Oak Hill, West Virginia, Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Martinsburg, West Virginia, Richmond, Virginia, Utica, New York and Orlando, Florida before being hired by the Golf Channel in 2001. In 2009, he became an inductee of the Greater Washington Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
