Teemu Selanne is a former NHL forward who played from 1989-2014, primarily with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and later Anaheim Ducks (1995-2001, 2005-2014) but also the Winnipeg Jets (1992-1996), San Jose Sharks (2000-2003) and Colorado Avalanche (2003-2004). Selanne holds over two dozen Ducks franchise records. Known as a prolific goal-scorer, Selanne won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 1993 as the NHL’s Rookie of the Year after tying for the league-lead in goals with 76. He earned 10 trips to the NHL All-Star Game (1993, 1994, 1996-2000, 2002, 2003, 2007) and was a First-Team All-Star in 1993 and 1997. His jersey #8 was retired by the Ducks in 2015 and he became a member of both the Hockey Hall of Fame and IIHF Hall of Fame in 2017.
In 1997-1998, Selanne once again tied for the NHL lead in goals with 52 while the following season he led the league outright with 47 goals scored, winning the inaugural Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy in 1999. In 2007, Selanne won the Stanley Cup with Anaheim, scoring 48 goals with 46 points for the Ducks on the season. Internationally, Selanne enjoyed a long and successful career representing Finland. He helped the Finns to four Olympic medals (bronze medals in 1998, 2010 and 2014 and a silver in 2006). With 43 career points, he is the all-time leading scorer in Olympic men’s hockey history. He also won a silver medal at the 1999 World Championships and a bronze at the 2008 event.
