Wesley Walker is a former NFL wide receiver who spent his entire career from 1977-1989 playing for the New York Jets. Walker overcame the odds to succeed in the NFL as he was legally blind in his left eye. That did not stop him from recording 438 career receptions for 8,306 yards and 71 touchdowns. Known as a consistent deep threat receiver, Walker’s career average yards per catch was 19. When he retired, Walker was ranked second all-time in Jets history for yards receiving.
In 1978, he was named to the Pro Bowl, earned first-team All-Pro honors and led the NFL in receiving yards with 1,169 yards, which was also a career-high for him. He additionally posted an average of 24.4 yards per catch. Walker was again named to the Pro Bowl in 1982 and the next season, he set a career-high with 61 receptions. Later in 1986, he posted his first 1,000-yard-plus receiving season since 1978.
Walker was born May 26, 1955 in San Bernardino, California. He played college football the University of California, where he was a standout wide receiver, earning All-American honors before being selected in the 2nd round by the Jets in the 1977 NFL Draft. He is a member of the Jets Ring of Honor and was inducted into the Suffolk (NY) Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2000.
