Bruce Bowen is a retired professional forward who played in the NBA for the Miami Heat (1997, 2000-2001), Boston Celtics (1997-1999), Philadelphia 76ers (1999-2000) and San Antonio Spurs (2001-2009). As a member of the Spurs, Bowen won three NBA titles in 2003, 2005 and 2007. Known for his aggressive defense, from 2004-2008 Bowen earned five straight NBA All-Defensive First-Team honors. From 2001-2003, he earned consecutive Second-Team honors as well. In 2012, Bowen became the seventh player in Spurs history to have his jersey retired.

During the Spurs’ championship run in 2004-2005, Bowen set a career-high with 8.2 points per game and started all 82 games. From 2002-2009, he missed a total of two out of 574 games for the Spurs. Bowen went undrafted out of Cal State Fullerton in 1993 and, after graduating, played overseas in France and in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) before moving to the NBA.

After his playing days, Bowen worked as an analyst for ESPN and for Fox Sports West’s coverage of the Los Angeles Clippers. Bowen was born on June 14, 1971 in Merced, California and is a member of he Fresno County Athletic Hall of Fame. He founded the Bruce Bowen Foundation and has been active in the fight against childhood obesity.
