Dan Fouts is a former NFL quarterback who played his entire professional career from 1973-1987 with the San Diego Chargers. In 1993, his first year of eligibility, Fouts became a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As a player, he was selected to six Pro Bowls (1979-1983, 1985) and three times was named first-team All-Pro (1979, 1982, 1985).
From 1979-1982, Fouts led the NFL every year in passing yards, while in back-to-back campaigns in 1981 and 1982, he additionally led the league in passing touchdowns. The 1979, 1980 and 1981 seasons saw Fouts eclipse 4,000 passing yards, making him the first player in NFL history to accomplish the feat in three straight seasons. Fouts’ 1982 season was full of accolades. Although he only played in nine games, he threw for 2,882 yards and 17 touchdowns, winning NFL Offensive MVP and Pro Football Writers Association MVP for his efforts.
Fouts is a member of the Los Angeles Chargers Hall of Fame and the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team. The Chargers have also retired his jersey #14 and, in 2009, as part of the Chargers 50th anniversary celebration, he was named by fans as the greatest Chargers player in franchise history. After his playing days, Fouts enjoyed a successful broadcasting career as an NFL analyst with CBS Sports, ABC Sports and Westwood One Radio. Fouts was born on June 10, 1951 in San Francisco, CA. He played college football at Oregon, where he set 19 school records. He is a member of both the school’s Hall of Fame and the state of Oregon’s Sports Hall of Fame.
