Howard Cross is a retired NFL tight end who played his entire career from 1989-2001 with the New York Giants. Cross built a reputation around sound blocking and durability as New York’s longtime tight end. He never missed a game during his career and from 1991-1999, started every one of the Giants’ contests. His 207 career games played in a Giants uniform is second in franchise history, trailing only Hall of Famer Michael Strahan. In 1991, the Giants defeated the Buffalo Bills, 20-19, winning Super Bowl XXV. Cross had four receptions for 39 yards in the win.
In 1993, Cross scored a career-high five touchdowns, hauling in 21 catches for 272 yards, while the next season he scored four td’s and set career-bests when he caught 31 passes for 364 yards. When the Giants made it to Super Bowl XXXV in 2000, he was the only remaining member of New York’s championship-winning team from 1990. The Giants would lose to Baltimore, 34-7. In a 13-year career, Cross caught 201 passes for 2,194 yards and scored 17 touchdowns. Cross played college football at Alabama and was a 6th round selection by New York in the 1989 NFL Draft. After his playing days, Cross worked as a broadcaster, calling games for the New York Giants Radio Network. He has stayed active in the community, working with various youth groups that help keep kids in school.
