Kris Letang is an NHL defenseman for the Pittsburgh Penguins, with whom he has spent his entire career since making his NHL debut in 2006 – 2007. Letang won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009, 2016 and 2017. Letang has appeared in the NHL All-Star Game six times (2011, 2012, 2016, 2018-2020) and was named a Second-Team NHL All-Star in 2013 and 2016. Letang is the Penguins’ franchise record holder for most points scored and most games played by a defenseman.
In 2022-2023, after battling through a stroke and the death of his father, Letang was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in recognition of his perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Even with all the adversity that season, Letang still managed to score 12 goals with 29 assists in 64 games.
During the Penguins’ 2015-2016 Stanley Cup run, Letang had a career-year, scoring 16 goals with 51 assists for 67 points. In the Stanley Cup Final, Letang netted the series-winning goal past San Jose Sharks goalie Martin Jones in a decisive Game 6 win for the Penguins. He later exceeded his career-best in points in 2021-2022, when he tallied 68 (10 goals, 58 assists). Internationally, he represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championships, winning a gold medal in back-to-back tries in 2006 and 2007.
