Rodney Peete played quarterback in the NFL from 1989-2004 with the Detroit Lions (1989-1993), Dallas Cowboys (1994), Philadelphia Eagles (1995-1998), Washington Redskins (1999), Oakland Raiders (2000-2001) and Carolina Panthers (2002-2004). After starting eight games for the Lions in 1989 as a rookie, the next season in 1990 saw Peete start 11 contests and establish then career-highs in passing yards (1,974) and passing touchdowns (13). In 1991, he started eight games for Detroit as the Lions went 6-2 with him running the offense.
After joining Philadelphia, Peete had a solid 1995 campaign, going 9-3 as the team’s starting quarterback while throwing eight touchdowns with 2,326 yards passing. Upon joining the Panthers at the age of 36 in 2002, Peete started a career-high 14 games for Carolina, going 7-7 and helping the team improve from a 1-15 record the year prior. His 15 passing touchdowns and 2,630 yards both proved to career-best numbers.
Born on March 16, 1966 in Mesa, Arizona, Peete enjoyed a successful collegiate playing career at the University of Southern California (USC). He was the Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year, a first-team All-American and the recipient of the Johnny Unitas Award as a senior in 1988. He also finished runner-up in the Heisman Trophy balloting that year. In 2014, Peete was the recipient of the NCAA Silver Anniversary Award. Since his playing days, Peete has worked in broadcasting, including serving as co-host along with Rob Dibble, John Salley and Chris Rose on FSN’s “The Best Damn Sports Show Period”.
