Professional golfer Zach Johnson has enjoyed a successful career on the PGA Tour, winning 12 tournaments along with two majors, the 2007 Masters in which he defeated Tiger Woods, Rory Sabbatini and Retief Goosen by two shots, and the 2015 Open Championship that he won in a four-hole playoff over Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen. Johnson turned pro in 1998, first playing on the Prairie Golf Tour, Hooters Tour and Buy.com Tour, and qualified for the PGA Tour after leading the latter tour in money earnings in 2003. Johnson notched his first win on the PGA Tour in 2004 at the Bellsouth Classic. In international play, Johnson has represented the U.S. on five Ryder Cup teams in 2006, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 and three Presidents Cup teams in 2007, 2009, 2013 and 2015.
Born on February 24, 1976 in Iowa City, Iowa, Johnson began playing golf at 10 years old and attended Drake University, where he helped lead the Bulldogs to two Missouri Valley titles and three berths in the NCAA regionals. Off the course, Johnson founded the Zach Johnson Foundation to assist families and kids in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 2020, Johnson was the recipient of the Payne Stewart Award, which is annually awarded to a golfer whose values of strong character, good sportsmanship and charity involvement are similar to those of Stewart. A devout Christian, Johnson appeared in a segment of “I Am Second”.
