Lomas Brown is a former NFL offensive tackle who played 18 seasons from 1985-2002 primarily with the Detroit Lions (1985-1995) and later the Arizona Cardinals (1996-1998), Cleveland Browns (1999), New York Giants (2000-2001) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002).
In total, Brown started 164 games for Detroit during his 11 seasons with the Lions, where he blocked for Hall of Fame tailback Barry Sanders. Brown was named a Pro Bowler in seven straight seasons from 1990-1996 during which period he also earned first-team All-Pro accolades three times. Similarly, in 1989-1990 and 1994 he was named second-team All-Pro and first-team All-NFC in 1990, 1994-1996. In his last season in the NFL, Brown helped the Jon Gruden-led Buccaneers to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII, giving him his first championship ring.
A 1st round selection out of the University of Florida by Detroit in the 1985 draft, Brown as a senior with the Gators earned All-American honors and was named first-team All-SEC in 1984. That same year he also won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, an honor that is bestowed annually to the SEC’s best blocker. He became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 2020. After his playing days, Brown worked in broadcasting for the NFL Network and ESPN and for WJR Radio as a color commentator for Lions games.
