Matt Cullen is a former NHL forward who enjoyed a long professional career of over 20 years from 1997-2019 with the Anaheim Ducks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, Ottawa Senators and Minnesota Wild. In 2005-2006, Cullen was a major contributor to Carolina’s success, scoring 25 goals with 49 total points in his 78 games played. The Hurricanes would go on to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history that year with Cullen earning his first championship. Cullen’s 25 goals scored that season marked a career-high.
At the age of 39, Cullen signed with the Penguins, and, in 2015-2016, his first year with the squad, he helped Pittsburgh win the Stanley Cup. On the year, Cullen scored 16 goals with 16 assists. Cullen and the Penguins repeated as Stanley Cup champions in 2016-2017 with Cullen scoring 13 goals to go along with 18 assists in route to claiming his third Stanley Cup title. In his career, Cullen played 1,516 games, making him one of 21 players in NHL history to play in at least 1,500 contests.
Internationally, Cullen represented the United States at four World Championships, winning a bronze medal in 2004. Born on November 2, 1976 in Virginia, Minnesota, Cullen competed collegiately for St. Cloud State before being picked by the Ducks in the 2nd round of the 1996 NHL Draft. Off the ice, Cullen created the Cullen Children’s Foundation and purchased the Fargo Force Hockey Academy, which is now known as the Cullen Force Academy, in Fargo, North Dakota.
